Don't Wait to See Your Dentist

You're pretty sure you need a dental crown. You know your tooth will look and feel better with this realistic porcelain restoration, but yourestorative dentistry dislike multiple dental visits. At Summerville Dentistry, Dr. Scott Wingard and Dr. Caleb Morris offer same-day dentistry in both their Evans and Augusta offices. Crowns, veneers, inlays and onlays are the tooth restorations their E4D dental system produce in just one visit.

You don't have to wait

And wait, and wait. Instead, if you need that porcelain crown, see Dr. Wingard or Dr. Morris and have quickly. You see, porcelain crowns, porcelain veneers and partial crowns (inlays and onlays) used to take multiple visits.

First, the patient needed his or teeth evaluated, X-rays, and prepped. Then, the dentist took oral impressions. These involved gooey impression putty and uncomfortable metal trays. From there, the outside dental lab took the dentist's treatment plan, the impressions and X-rays and created a three-dimensional model.

Finally, the technician used the model to sculpt the crown, veneer or inlay/onlay. All this took time, and while the patient went home and waited, he or she typically wore a temporary restoration. When the permanent restorations were complete, the patient returned to the dentist's office for a "try-on" and adjustment of fit and bite. Results, of course, were quite good but certainly, time and labor intensive.

The new way is same-day

All that changes with the E4D dental system at Summerville Dentistry. For instance, if you are a candidate for a porcelain crown to restore your cracked tooth, your dentist will remove the damaged portions and then create digital oral impressions using special laser-based technology. There's no putty, no trays, and no gagging. Plus, the impressions are precise.

Then, your dentist uses CAD/CAM software (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) to design and actually make your crown right on site. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to complete the milling process. Then, Dr. Wingard or Dr. Morris bonds the restoration in place. Because these processes are so precise, your dentist will not need to adjust the crown much, if at all, for best fit and bite.

These modern restorations last upwards of 10 years with good hygiene at home. So, if you receive one, anticipate a beautiful and functional tooth that durable, too.
