Why Choose Same Day Crowns?

Do you need a crown to restore a tooth, strengthen it, or improve its appearance? Your Evans and Augusta, GA, dentists, Drs. Scott Wingard and Caleb Morris can help you care for your smile with convenient same-day crowns.

4 benefits of same-day crowns

Same-day crowns offer a few advantages that make them a particularly good choice, including:

  • Convenience: If you received porcelain or porcelain-fused-to-metal crown in the past, you paid two visits to the dentist's office. During the first visit, your dentist reduced the size of your tooth, made an impression of the mouth, and created a temporary crown to cover your tooth. Then, you waited for the dental laboratory to complete your new crown. In about two weeks, you returned to the dental office to receive the crown. Same-day crowns are created in the Evans or Augusta office eliminating the need for two appointments.

  • More Comfortable Impressions: You're not alone if you consider putty impressions the worst part of the crown process. Messy putty can trigger gagging in people with sensitive gag reflexes or cause discomfort. Luckily, putty impressions aren't needed to produce your same-day crown. Your dentist will use a laser scanner instead to quickly create a digital scan of your mouth.

  • No Temporary Crowns: If you choose a traditional crown, you'll need to wear a temporary crown until your permanent crown is ready. Temporary crowns aren't quite as tough as permanent crowns, which means you'll need to avoid hard, tough, or sticky foods that could loosen or break the crown. Thanks to same-day crowns, temporary crowns are no longer required.

  • Expert Crown Creation: Your dentist designs your crown using CAD/CAM software, which allows him to create a crown that fits your mouth perfectly. Once he's satisfied with the design, he sends it to the milling machine in his office. While you wait, the machine makes your new crown by removing layers from a block of ceramic or resin.
