How Does Invisalign Work?

Find out how this clear orthodontic system creates perfectly straight smiles.

Everyone wants straighter teeth. Maybe you were one of those lucky few whose teeth are perfect, but chances are good that your teeth are slightly misaligned. If so, you may be wondering if you should turn to our Augusta, and Evans, GA, dentists Dr. Scott Wingard and Dr. Caleb Morris for Invisalign, a discreet system that uses clear aligners to straighten teeth.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign provides you with clear, nearly invisible trays that are custom-made to cover your teeth. They are completely metal-free, and each aligner gradually shifts teeth into their ideal position over the course of your treatment. Your Invisalign treatment is first mapped out by our Evans, and Augusta, GA, family dentists.

By taking digital impressions of your teeth and then producing 3D images of your smile on special computer software, our team can design your ideal smile by determining which teeth need to move and just how much. This information is then sent to an Invisalign-approved lab, where they will make your custom set of aligners.

What is it like wearing Invisalign?

These aligners feel a lot like wearing mouthguards or whitening trays, except that they are made to fit your smile so they will be a bit snugger. While snug, these plastic aligners are smoothed at the edges to prevent irritation and discomfort. Aligners are quite comfortable and should be worn for the majority of the day. In fact, whenever you aren’t brushing, flossing, eating, or drinking (except water), you should be wearing your aligners. This equates to about 22 hours out of the day.

How long will I wear Invisalign?

This will really depend on the severity of the issues you’re dealing with. Minor to moderate issues may see results in as little as six months, with the adult’s average length of treatment is 12 months. Teens usually see results in about 18-24 months, which is comparable to traditional braces. This is something that Dr. Wingard can discuss with you during your consultation and treatment planning.

If you are interested in turning to our Augusta, and Evans, GA, dental team for Invisalign, the next step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Wingard and Dr. Morris to find out if you’re an ideal candidate for Invisalign. Call Summerville Dentistry at (706) 738-4723 or (706) 250-2998.
