How Can I Change The Shape Of My Teeth?

Find out what cosmetic dental options can alter the shape of your smile.

Not everyone is happy with the shape or appearance of their smile. If you weren’t born with the perfect set of teeth, you may be cosmetic dentistrywondering how our Evans and Augusta, GA cosmetic dentists, Dr. Scott Wingard and Dr. Caleb Morris, can help. Find out more about the cosmetic options we offer to help reshape your smile for the better.

Tooth reshaping and contouring

If minor dental defects are keeping you from your ideal smile then subtle changes can easily be made with reshaping and contouring. Problems such as extremely pointy teeth, oddly shaped teeth and small chips can be safely and easily shaved down. Because only a small amount of enamel is being buffed out this procedure only takes a few minutes, it’s completely painless and it doesn’t require anesthesia.

Dental Bonding

This cosmetic treatment often goes hand-in-hand with dental contouring. Your Evans and Augusta dentist will use a tooth-colored resin (the exact material used for dental fillings), which is then molded over the tooth and shaped to achieve the ideal look. Once the proper shape is formed a dental laser will be directed over the tooth to harden the resin permanently.

Bonding is a great way to fix gaps between teeth, small chips and cracks, discolorations, worn down or misshapen teeth, and even minor overlapping. Just like with contouring, this procedure can be performed painlessly without the use of drills or needles.

Porcelain Veneers

If your dental imperfections are too much for the procedures above to tackle then usually the next option is dental veneers. These thin, stain-resistant shells are adhered to the front of your teeth to mask more serious flaws that other cosmetic procedures can’t handle.

While this treatment is usually done without anesthesia, some enamel must be removed prior to placing the veneers. Once enamel has been removed, this procedure isn’t reversible.
